Any BMW lover will know that they tend to hold their value pretty well and for those who don’t have the finances for a new one, that’s good news. What it means for the average buyer is that they can get a pretty reasonably priced second hand BMW, and they will know that it will give them years of service.
However, as always, there is reason for caution, and we have put together some tips for those considering purchasing a used BMW.
1 – Don’t Buy in Haste
You might think the first one you see is the only decent one you will find, but don’t jump in and buy it. Check on eBay Motors and your local dealers first and make a note of the ones you like. Don’t be afraid to wait a while and don’t be pressured by an eager salesman who said he had an offer on it this morning. Take your time and find the right one for you.
2 – Check Mileage
One thing that might work in your favour is to find a BMW that used to be a company vehicle. You can usually guarantee to a large degree that they were regularly serviced and maintained well. Despite the high mileage, you will get a good car that has been well looked after.
3 – Service History
Always check the service history because it will give you a very accurate reading of the way the car was looked after. It will document parts changed, oil changes and other important aspects of ownership that could be a factor in your decision to buy.
Sensibility and Sense
Typically a BMW will be a reliable car for many years, providing you take care of it. Not everyone sees it this way, so just be cautious and exercise good sense when choosing your new BMW.
